The excitement of having straighter teeth and a beautiful smile can be dampened by the straightening process if metal braces are your only option for improving your smile. Fortunately, for most people, it’s not! Today, you can get the same straightening results from clear dental aligners! A visit to Cotton Creek Dental, serving residents in Washington and St. George, Utah, can determine if clear aligner therapy is a good fit for you. Dr. Jacob Jennings answers your questions about clear aligners here.  Â
Both metal braces and clear aligners are effective teeth straightening systems. Clear aligners, however, are more popular due to greater comfort, convenience, and ease. In place of metal brackets and wires, you’ll wear clear, removable aligners to gradually reposition crooked teeth until you achieve a straighter, healthier smile. We will plan your treatment and customize aligners according to your specific goals and desires. You’ll wear the aligners as instructed, 20 to 22 hours a day, changing to a new set every 2-3 weeks, until your orthodontic goals are achieved.
Clear aligners work incredibly well at correcting most orthodontic issues, including bite problems, crooked and overlapping teeth, overcrowding, and spacing issues. Therefore, most teens and adults can benefit from this treatment. Just the same, we will conduct a thorough evaluation of your teeth to determine if clear aligners are right for you.
Timeframes for completion will vary, as we tailor our treatments to meet our patients’ individual orthodontic needs. The longer you wear the aligners, however, the quicker you’ll achieve your smile goals. The average timeframe for completion is 12 to 18 months.

You can gently brush and rinse your aligners with warm water every time they’re removed. This removes plaque that can cause staining. Brushing your teeth after every meal will also help keep the aligners clean. Always store the aligners in a safe place after removing them so they don’t get lost or damaged when they’re not in your mouth.
There are very few dietary restrictions with clear aligner therapy, as you always remove the aligners for eating and drinking anything but water. We recommend you stick to healthy and nutritious food during treatment to maintain good oral health. You should also brush after every meal to keep your teeth and gums fresh and clean. As with all orthodontic treatment, it is important to avoid sticky and particularly crunchy foods and candies.
You’ll be given a retainer to wear at night to keep your teeth from reverting to their former position. Wearing the retainer as instructed can help keep your smile perfectly aligned for life.
